It is that time of the year...

Hello all,
I wanted to take a second to let you know we have had one reported case of the flu in our class. There are many sicknesses going around our hall. Please watch your children for these symptoms: sore throat, vomiting, headache, body aches and cough to name a few. We have had several cases of strep, flu and viruses on our hall. If your child does become sick PLEASE keep them at home! We are disinfecting on a daily basis in hopes to keep sickness to a minimum however we need your help as well. If your child has a fever please follow the rule of fever free 24 hours before returning to school. If you can help us keep sick children at home we hope that we can keep the germs down here as well.

Grades

There are new grades up on RenWeb! Remember that the 9 weeks will end next week and report cards will come home on Monday, October 15th. If your child has all of their AR points they will receive a 100 in the grade book in reading. If you child does not have all of the required point they will receive a grade that is the percentage of the required points. For example, if you child has 3 points I will take 3/5 and they will get a 60 because that is the percentage of points they got out of the required points. I will send home this weekend how many points each child has. So you can read over the long weekend and test on Tuesday to earn the points needed!

Calling all Parents to the floor!

It is that time of year where we are calling all parents to the floor at FA! Concession stand TONIGHT!!!! Please come and help out your child's class and visit with other parents! Remember about parent/teacher conferences! I would love to meet with any of you about your child, just call the office and set up a time! We will be getting out of school early that day. We will dismiss at 12:30. Send a snack with your child that day. We will not be going to lunch and since we eat so early getting out at 12:30 will be late for us to eat.

We WON!!!

I am so excited to say that our class showed AWESOME Trojan spirit today at the pep rally! We won a spirit stick!!! I am very proud of the Mini Cheerleaders from our class as well! Mary Katherine, Taylor, Mackenzie, Ava and Sara Kate did a wonderful job today as well! Girls good luck tonight at the game!

Picture Day!

Parents,
Picture day is TOMORROW!!! Please make sure that your child is dressed for pictures. We will go from pictures to P.E.  If your child wants to bring clothes to change into they may, however thy will not have time to change before P.E. I just wanted to let you each know! NO Pick up in the back!

Mr. Garden has asked that all students be picked up in the front of Sewell Hall. Please do not park and come get your child. Mr. Garden wants every child to be picked up in the front so that the teacher that is on duty will know that every child has been picked up. If we have children leaving out the back they are not being watched by an adult and thus causes the opportunity for accidents and children being misplaced. So please pick your children up in the front and not the back!

FYI:

•  This year we will have a second grade blog. On this blog you will be able to see pictures and other highlights from our class. You will also be able to access the spelling words, newsletters and study guides each week as well. Please make sure you keep a check on the blog, because I may post notes or alerts instead of sending paper notes home. For the first few weeks you will receive a paper newsletter with the test schedule and the week’s spelling words and other important information, after a few weeks, I will not send a paper newsletter home, but you will be able to get it off of the blog. To find our blog go to fullingtonsecondgrade.blogspot.com

•  Each Monday, I will be sending home graded tests from the week before.  Please remove these from the folder after looking at them and sign the folder for the appropriate date.  All grades below 90 need to be signed and returned in that folder.  Also please sign your child’s agenda each night.  I will write a note in your child’s agenda when he/ she receives a hole punch.  

·        Lunch: Since there are many different items for your child to order from each day and lunch has to be preordered the day before, I am asking that you and your child decide what he/she wants to eat for the week or the following day and write it in your child’s agenda. I am also including in this folder a Ziploc bag with your child’s name on it for you to put lunch money in daily or weekly.  I will remove the money and clip the Ziploc bag into your child’s agenda daily.  This will help me keep up with lunch money for 24 students much easier. Chicken Tenders WILL NOT be offered each day!

• Your child will need to have 5 A.R. points every nine weeks.  Treats will be given for those who have reached this goal.  Please remember that in order for your child to be allowed to take an A.R. test you must write A.R. Ready and initial it in their agenda.  Your child will not be allowed to take an A.R. test unless you have done this each time.

• Please remember to send the Student information sheet, Handbook sheet, the pink sheet and behavior contract back to school as soon as possible. The Student information and Handbook sheets are due to the office by August 20^th. Also please send in workbook money as well.

• We will also have chicken biscuit each week. The price has gone up some this year! If your child would like to have a chicken biscuit from Chick Fl a please send $2.50 on Tuesday. We will have the biscuits on Wednesday mornings.

• Wrapping paper forms are due back on August 24^th.

• Homework will be written in your child’s agenda each day. Please make sure to check the agenda each night to see what homework your child has for the night!

• Our Rotation schedule is as follows. Monday: Keyboarding   Tuesday: Enrichment    Wednesday: P.E.  Thursday: Library    Friday: Spanish

WELCOME to second grade! I am so very excited about having 24 students! We will have a very full room! Even though we will be tight on space I know that our room  be full of learning! I am so excited to get to know a new group of student and parents! Parents don't forget to look at your open house pack and return the items that need to be returned! On Friday you will receive a FYI sheet that will tell you a little more about how we work in second grade! I am looking forward to a great year!!!
